Just been sitting here and reminiscing, checking out some of the old Raptor FPV footage from way back in 2015 down at Calverts Lagoon
and 2017 & Tony’s farm
Thanks Ian, it’s a nice project for a rainy day.
I’ve got most of the programming done and had the video feed & OSD up and running on the bench so now its all slowly being fitted into the “Raptor”
The F411-WSE flight controller is installed along with all its wiring & GPS unit. Just 3D printing an antenna mount for the receiver and once that is done I can finish all the internal wiring in the plane & start fine tuning the FC settings.
I do like the fact that the OSD (sent back to the Ground Station or Flight Goggles) is fully programmable in that you can choose how much or how little info is displayed AND where on the screen it is displayed, all very nice & convenient.
Also I believe multiple OSD screens can be set up with different info and these can be selected in flight via the radio.
I’ll have more of a fiddle with that once all the gear is running in the plane. So far all is working out well and I now have all 16 radio channels available via the SBUS link so won’t need to use two receivers any more to allow for the Flaps & FC control channels. The FC also has a switchable output to allow for two cameras to be connected & switchable in flight. Probably won’t worry about that at this stage but would be a bonus on long flights if one camera should fail.
As I was warned by Uncle G, there is way more programming & stuffing around with the iNav controllers compared to the ones we used to use, they were almost just Plug’n’Play especially when compared to this new stuff but hopefully the advantages will outweigh the disadvantages.
We never had a fail of any of the FY-41AP’s except one (that someone whom shall remain a nameless frog) that got rewired incorrectly and had a hole blown in it. I guess only time will tell.
Oh well, back to work.
“Sticks” are like elephants, they never forget !!

Sorry my little amphibious friend but after watching the video I must concur “Bad Boat”.
Duck rules of sailing clearly stipulate that NO BOAT shall go back through the start line or return to the racing side of the start line while the race is in progress.
It really does make the job much harder for the PRO and the scorers.
There are a couple of other skippers that also flaunt this rule on numerous occasions, perhaps they need to be called out in the video’s as well.
Just my thoughts on the matter.
Nice on Ron, a few seconds out with the sync between video & telemetry but that’s being picky.
Perhaps if you had the video feed full screen & the telemetry as overlay it would be less noticeable but well done none the less. Only noticed one serious telemetry drop out way over by our old flying humpy so your system works very well.
You have got me back interested in FPV and I now have a “Raptor” rebuild & upgrade under way with an iNav system this time round.
Still waiting to see your contribution Ron !!
Well, well, first it was SloMo and now Picture in Picture, where will your editing prowess ever end !!
Well done Mr Frog.
Yes I must admit it was another fun day for flying & I’m glad I never missed it.
Managed to sort out the iNav system on the BumbleBee. Think I’m getting my head around the new system slowly.
Next project will be to upgrade my FirStar FPV plane to iNav & get back into a bit of FPV flying again.
Dave had two long training flights on the Bix II Sport (and the Buddy Box), he flew like a pro !!
Kermit, our little amphibious buddy supplied some yummy cream cakes to have with the usual BBQ lunch, thanks Kermit.
BTW: Edit others should now be disabled again.
Bit of a weather change between the start of racing & the finish.
Looks like a nice spot though.
Out of the mouths of babies & frogs (or so it seems), waffle (just being polite)

Rear camera, rear camera, it was the only damn camera.
So nah, special camera effect, simulates vibration caused by supersonic speed.
Don’t Frogs know nuthin!!
Hoppy, your #16 camera has a slightly wider lens by the look of it and the focus is much better (especially close up) than the #32 on the first video from the Drifter.
However, the #32 footage from the Fox looks fine, maybe it’s just the lens is further away from the closest target and that there is virtually no vibration in the Fox.
All in all it looks like everyone had a fine (and almost uneventful) day of flying.
Dolly Trolley – take two, raised the angle slightly & added a couple of wing stop posts.
The problem seems to be with the original design that the bumpy ground dislodges the glider from the dolly trolley before it gets up to speed. I’m sure it would have worked fine on a paved or mown runway but not so in our sheep paddock.
Hopefully this simple mod will fix the problem.
May need to fiddle the post heights a bit but will just have to wait till our next Fly Day to find out.
Justin, a few weeks ago several of the skippers had a discussion & decided to get rid of drops, as we did a couple of weeks earlier when we stopped counting DNS/DNF scores within the drops.
It was noted on the writeup of DF65 racing a fortnight ago and feedback was asked for re the new scoring system.
None was forthcoming so I assumed today would be no different. If some skippers don’t like the new scoring system then you need to discuss it with those that do and come to a decision.
It is a democratic society and everyone gets to have their say, but when they say nothing decisions get made by others.
Yes Ron, editing video, especially with multiple tracks does take quite some time, especially if you want to sync it all up correctly. Yours all came out pretty well. The map overlay works well.
Is something short on memory?
One of me earliest hand-held GPS units that I had in the boat at the time used to drop the tracking line just like that once it filled up its RAM.
