Sailing at the canal always promises a story, and this week’s outing at the Lauderdale canal jetty did not disappoint. Kermit arrived early, keen to make the most of the conditions, only to be confronted by the now-infamous wheelchair mob already occupying prime launching territory. Clustered together at the jetty like a defensive barricade, they eyed the arriving sailors with suspicion. After a brief but tense exchange, Kermit made it clear the jetty was not theirs alone. A few well-chosen words and a thinly veiled threat of organized resistance were enough to persuade them to roll on and relocate, much to their obvious annoyance.

Reinforcements soon arrived in the form of GG, whose presence added weight to the claim on the water. With the jetty secured, preparations continued and sailing finally commenced. The air was cool and sharp, biting at fingers and ears, but a steady, reliable breeze flowed down the canal, setting up ideal sailing conditions. Boats slipped smoothly onto the water, cutting clean lines as they tacked back and forth, sails full and obedient.

Peace, however, was never going to last. A short while later, two of the wheelchair mob’s henchmen returned, advancing with theatrical menace while waving their transmitters from the safety of their chairs. They loitered at the edge of the action, heckling and posturing, clearly hoping to disrupt proceedings. Their efforts escalated when one of them attempted to push Kermit toward the water’s edge in a clumsy act of retaliation.

That proved to be a mistake. The group reacted swiftly, pushing back both figuratively and literally. Faced with unified resistance and a complete lack of success, the henchmen beat a hasty retreat, rolling away in defeat and leaving the canal to the sailors once more.

As the afternoon wore on, the cold air began to win the battle. Fingers stiffened, concentration waned, and common sense prevailed. One by one, boats were recovered and the group retired to the shore, where warmth, laughter, and storytelling took over. Tales of the week were exchanged, victories exaggerated, mishaps improved upon, and plans made for future sessions.

With this week’s video competition attracting only a single entry, the result is beyond dispute. Congratulations go to the frog himself—Mr Kermit—who claims victory by default, if not by undeniable style.

After viewing both videos and weighing up options on who will pay the most for a win it looks like that Kermit is this week’s winner, plus it didn’t help Sinker distracting us causing 2 boats to run aground.

Good videos from all. Gadgets FPV landing even looked spot on, and it’s a pity Gadget and I couldn’t get closer to Predators plane. Great day flying for all minus one.

Well it’s a bit late coming but we’ll worth the wait. Mr Sinker showing his full potential with video making and editing and submitting an award winning video to be this week’s winner.

Kermit missed a good day’s sailing and the opertunity to be able to sail around Ron’s Reef sign without running aground

After watching all the videos here, I have come to a decision about this week’s winner and feel that they are all good videos, so this week’s winner is…….

SINKER, KERMIT, HOPPY AND SHEEP SHAGGER.

all equal first, no bitchin there fellas.

Picture of the week goes to Sinker

And the most times for running aground to Kermit

Sailing at Lauderdale Canal today was nothing short of exceptional, the sort of day that reminds everyone why we keep coming back to this quirky, spirited little stretch of water. The sun arrived early and stayed the whole day, warm but never overbearing, while a gentle breeze skimmed across the surface just strong enough to keep sails taut and sailors smiling. It was the kind of weather that could make even the rustiest skipper feel like a seasoned sea dog.

But what truly set today apart wasn’t just the conditions—it was the company. The much-celebrated Wheel Chair mob made their way down the canal, floating with effortless style toward the usual gathering of hardened salty sailors. The mingling of these two groups created an atmosphere of camaraderie difficult to describe but impossible to forget. There was laughter on the docks, chatter on the water, and a shared appreciation for being out in the open air together. Watching the two crews mix, trade stories, and cheer each other on added a spirit of inclusiveness and good humour that lifted the whole day.

Of course, no sail at Lauderdale would be complete without the ever-important media awards. Today’s Video Award goes—hands down—to Hoppy, who outdid himself by submitting not one but two outstanding videos. The man clearly had his camera pointed in all the right directions and maybe even caught a few moments the rest of us missed. Hoppy’s work not only captured the technical highlights of the day but also bottled up its energy, its small triumphs, and the unfiltered joy of being out on the water.

And to keep the frog happy, we’ll let him claim Picture of the Week—for now, at least. The honour stands unless the Sinker manages to come through with something extraordinary in the next round. There’s always room for a twist in the Lauderdale media saga, after all.

All said and done, today was one of those sailing days that felt effortless, cheerful, and slightly magical. With perfect weather, a beautifully blended crowd, and plenty of stories to carry forward, Lauderdale Canal proved once again that it isn’t just a place to sail—it’s a community afloat. Here’s to more days just like this one.
