Another quality production Mr Kermit however for some reason you are only publishing in 720p rather than 1080. Significantly reduces the quality of the video especially when watching on a large screen.

Plenty of Crash & Bash action to capture this week.

Just lucky no one did any major damage.

Moose, one thing I found online was that large slow powerful motors really need metal engine mounts. Prolonged running generates significant heat & timber or plastic mounts tend to fail when they get hot.

The Chipmunk has a full metal mount all the way from the firewall to the motor. One section bolts to the firewall and the front section that holds the motor is adjustable via 4 bolts (two each side) so the up/down and left/right angle of the motor is easily adjustable.

If you cant find one on line then I’m sure one could easily be made with some aluminium plate.

Here is a link to one similar to the Chipmunk, for the price its not worth making one.

This one is by far the cheapest (from AliExpress) but eBay & Banggood also stock them, just a lot dearer.

The Super Chipmunk is finished & ready to fly.

The Motor is a Turnigy Aerodrive C4260-500

and the ESC is an 80A Flyermate capable of using 2S to 7S LiPos

Some online info suggests the plane needs a 5S or even a 6S LiPo but other posts suggest a 4S is fine.

The plane has a purpose build battery hole in the underside and given that a 4S 4000mAh (ex Grand Tundra) is a perfect fit and gives a near perfect COG that is what I’ll try.

The motor has been lubricated & all fixings locktite’d, the wiring tidied up with XT60 plugs instead of the old Deans connectors and a new receiver & Hobby Eagle A3-V2 stabiliser installed & programmed.

Hopefully Tuesday or Wednesday will be good to fly so won’t need to wait long to try it out.

Think I have found the issue with the Slow Poke Max Speed being lower than expected, the AeroStar 40A ESC is faulty.

Was doing a bit of testing today and it got far too hot to touch and the motor was running very rough.

I’ve installed a Turnigy Plush 30A esc and all seems to be running fine. WOT on the bench is 28Amps so I should be able to get away with the 30A instead of the 40A

I’ve put a warranty claim into HK as all except batteries is supposed to have 12 months warranty.

Next project will be the Super Chipmunk.

    Looking very nice Mr Moose.

Be nice to see the builds & rebuilds of some of the other donated planes.

Looking good. Hopefully lockdown will still finish Monday evening then you can come & visit for us to set up the electronics.

That pilot looks a bit of a worry though, perhaps the frog should be in the pilots seat.

That was the first one I spotted but thought it was too similar to some you already had. Oh well being FMS it should be a decent plane. No doubt some sort of Cessna knock off.

Hopefully (and with a lot of luck) we may still get to fly on Tuesday.

    Well then perhaps

I guess that means at your age you have EVERYTHING you want !!

This looks like an Uncle G type of plane !!

Yes Ron, I also just got the word, most likely 3 day lockdown from midnight tonight so Tuesday is looking better by the minute.

The announcement has not been made officially yet but everyone is out panic buying. My daughter is at Coles NthGate and reckons the register queue stretches right down to the back of the shop.

    Happy times ahead !!

Actually I was thinking that Sunday MAY be OK if the weather improves tomorrow.

Sunday is supposedly only light winds & possible showers later in the day (much like Tuesday)

Could be a new V Tail glider to replace the old one he wrote off the other day ?
