Another quick flight with the ASW28 around a typical Aussie Sports field. It feels a lot like Lauderdale Oval especially when trying to land .

G’day Pete, there are two trains of thought when it comes to storing LiPo batteries, some suggest they should be stored with a “Storage Charge” (one of the LiPo charger settings) which is a bit above 1/2 charge however I have always stored mine fully charged and then just top them up before usage.

The Eneloop batteries are LSD (low self discharge) so will hold a charge (typically for over a year) however I would remove ALL batteries from any equipment not in regular use.

Just my thoughts & I’m sure many will argue against it but I have Eneloop & Turnigy LSD AA & AAA cells over 8 years old and still going strong and many of my LiPo batteries are a similar age and apart from one or two that eventually a cell failed in any other replacements have been due to “catastrophic trauma” from impacting the ground at a great rate of knots.

Nice video Chris but perhaps you need to slow down the pan (or increase the frame rate) so as not to blur the pic.

I’ve been going to put the Mavic Pro up for a flight around here but every time I think about it, its either windy or raining.

Anyway I downloaded the ASW 28 files for the Phoenix Flight simulator So I guess I’ll just have to go and fly that.

Ian had the same problem trying to workout why I wasn’t sharing this great flying location so I guess I better let the cat out of the bag.

Its called Phoenix Bay and all the flying was done sitting @ my desk in total isolation.

The first time I saw it done was not long after I got my printer & some guy was printing working prosthetic hands for kids.  The section that attached to the arm was printed flat then warmed up and bent round the recipients arm for a perfect fit.

Sometimes it is much easier to print flat or level then bend later, I also used this method when printing a new nose cone for the Aure BA1 glider, the fuselage was a rather odd elliptical shape & it was the only way I could think of to get the correct fit after printing it round.

In anticipation of the new FPV goggles arriving & of eventually the Stay @ Home directive being lifted I decided to set the Fox glider up for FPV.

I have made a stand alone 3D printed module that will hold the RunCam 2 camera & a 400mw VTX.

This is the 3D design ready for printing

After printing it was heated with my Solder Reflow Station and bent in the middle slightly to match the curve of the cockpit canopy.

The section under the camera mounts with Velcro to the original camera mount I had printed & fitted previously to the Fox canopy.

The rear part under the VTX is fitted with Velcro loop (opposite to the hook) to protect the canopy but all fixing is at the front.

The camera can still be Velcro mounted direct to the canopy for non fpv flights or in the FPV module when required.

I have ordered some solderable USB Micro-B plugs rather than cutting up my last long camera video lead so will need to wait till they arrive before testing.

 

Oh well its a lovely day outside so I think Ill go for a fly.

Moose, the latest Phoenix Flight Simulator should work fine with Windows 10, if it wont work on your laptop try winding the display resolution back as your graphics card may not be up to the task.

Kermit & others, both Ross & I cancelled out Banggood orders for the goggles as I spoke to them online & they had no idea when they would be back in stock & then wanted another 4 weeks to ship them.

I ordered my replacements from AliExpress and they were posted within 48 hours with a guaranteed max delivery of 20 days or a full refund.  Ross ordered his from a company in Singapore (they were a bit cheaper than AilExp) & I believe his are on the way as well.

As for the rest of your queries, they can be answered when the new ones arrive. Certainly from the limited testing I did with RonC’s goggles, the new design is much easier to use when wearing glasses & allows for peripheral vision as well. They don’t however have any record facility without an addon VCR whereas the newer Quanum Diversity goggles that Ross & I both have (for sale) do have a fairly decent video recorder built in.

Been doing a bit of tidying up on a few of my planes.

Removed the old crimson stripe from the Fox glider and replaced it with some SOLAS rated red reflective tape. Figured it may be a lot easier to see at a distance especially when the sun catches it.

Now we just need to get out of isolation and back to the Great Outdoors for some flying.

Thanks Gerald, they are a good buy if you want a simple stabiliser with RTH/circle mode and definitely a lot easier to set up than the FY-41AP’s
