I have a lot of footage but its same old same old so I haven’t decided if I’ll post it or not.
Maybe later in the week when I get time to edit it a bit tighter.
Definitely was a good flying day today even with the wind.
Just a pity it was a tad too windy for my big MDM-1 Fox glider, then there may have been a bit of different video as the thermals were working well today.
Finally, after many hours of converting the 4K files to 1080P so that I could edit them here is the onboard video from BattleAxe yesterday, including a couple of rescues etc.
The vid is a tad long but it took so damn long to convert I got sick of trying to edit it much. Cut over 1 hour down to around 18 minutes so just fast forward over any boring bits.
I’ve got some good footage from the new GoPro 9 onboard “BattleAxe” but unfortunately I had the camera resolution set too high for my PC to edit.
I’m now in the process of converting 12 x 5 minute files to a more suitable resolution but each one takes over an hour so the video wont be up till Monday night as we are away tomorrow up north & flying Monday.
Got a few good rescues & some other stuff so it should be worth the time & effort.
I’ve now changed the camera settings so should be OK next time.
Thought I better find out what was wrong with my DF65 “Illusion” after the sail winch stopped working half way through Race 1 last Tuesday.
The sail winch (although showing no signs of water ingress) has finally died after 7 years. Not a bad run I suppose!!
My original V2 DF65 “Smoke’n’Mirrors” was delivered on 24th September 2013 and that same original sailwinch has been used in 3 replacement hulls since then. The winch did have a rest for a couple of years while I was using a HiSpeed Digital Arm Winch in Smoke’n’Mirrors in the early years (RG65 classification – not DF65) but other than that it has performed flawlessly for all those years. Just shows what decent waterproofing does when sailing in salt water.
The motor still functions fine but the control board has no output. Time for the bin.
The replacement is a metal geared Digital sailwinch (from Kyle) which was purchased for the DF95 but never installed as the original one in that is still working also. Guess I will need to get another spare now, just in case.
Nice bit of footage there Hoppy and your “wifiecam” works a treat. No soft focus in site!!
My videos from today
Looking pretty good even with the reflection.
Given that most of the worst reflection is coming off the top of the black dashboard maybe covering in with thin self adhesive felt (from Spotlight) would reduce the reflection without spoiling the interior look. Its not much thicker than paper so wont add weight and it has virtually no reflective qualities. I used if for carpet in the Fireboat cabin and should have a small bit left around here somewhere so if I find it you can give it a try.
Very Nice.
Due to the graphic nature of this video content (and the fact that one of the main participants is also Judge & Jury of the weekly video) I thought it best to not post it till this weeks video comp was all done & dusted, less there were cries of jury rigging or ” buying votes” etc etc.
The video does come at the right time to perhaps dispel some of the “Fake News” cries about our beloved frog “Mr Kermit esq.”
I think it shows that the frog can indeed fly (still needs more practice on landing and even more on checking battery charge levels) and fly quite well given the nature of low winged planes as opposed to high wing trainers.
Anyway, enough of the waffle, here is the video for all to marvel at!!
A bit more footage I found from Friday
It appears as if the Frog has been hiding his RC plane building & flying prowess. Looking like a true pro today.
Great videos everyone, sorry I missed it.
Certainly looked like a nice day, no wind out at Moonah where I was working.
Hopefully it will work ok, at least the waterproofing will be better with the front canopy on & the rear one removable.
It was a shame that the earlier than expected rains cut short our flying day today but none the less I think everyone enjoyed themselves.
The Hobby King TL2000 certainly did fly nice off the water with its supplied floats fitted. It handled the takeoffs & landings like a STOL Bush Plane.
Another fine day of racing in great company.
Thanks.
Certainly was another fine day for flying.
Here is my first vid from the Gooney Bird
and one from the Bix 2 Sport doing a bit of thermalling & low flying
and finally the Esky Eyas “Li’l Eagle”, first with me flying & then the Bad Angel having a go.
