Nice on Ron, a few seconds out with the sync between video & telemetry but that’s being picky.
Perhaps if you had the video feed full screen & the telemetry as overlay it would be less noticeable but well done none the less. Only noticed one serious telemetry drop out way over by our old flying humpy so your system works very well.
You have got me back interested in FPV and I now have a “Raptor” rebuild & upgrade under way with an iNav system this time round.
Still waiting to see your contribution Ron !!
Well, well, first it was SloMo and now Picture in Picture, where will your editing prowess ever end !!
Well done Mr Frog.
Yes I must admit it was another fun day for flying & I’m glad I never missed it.
Managed to sort out the iNav system on the BumbleBee. Think I’m getting my head around the new system slowly.
Next project will be to upgrade my FirStar FPV plane to iNav & get back into a bit of FPV flying again.
Dave had two long training flights on the Bix II Sport (and the Buddy Box), he flew like a pro !!
Kermit, our little amphibious buddy supplied some yummy cream cakes to have with the usual BBQ lunch, thanks Kermit.
BTW: Edit others should now be disabled again.
Bit of a weather change between the start of racing & the finish.
Looks like a nice spot though.
Out of the mouths of babies & frogs (or so it seems), waffle (just being polite)

Rear camera, rear camera, it was the only damn camera.
So nah, special camera effect, simulates vibration caused by supersonic speed.
Don’t Frogs know nuthin!!
Hoppy, your #16 camera has a slightly wider lens by the look of it and the focus is much better (especially close up) than the #32 on the first video from the Drifter.
However, the #32 footage from the Fox looks fine, maybe it’s just the lens is further away from the closest target and that there is virtually no vibration in the Fox.
All in all it looks like everyone had a fine (and almost uneventful) day of flying.
Dolly Trolley – take two, raised the angle slightly & added a couple of wing stop posts.
The problem seems to be with the original design that the bumpy ground dislodges the glider from the dolly trolley before it gets up to speed. I’m sure it would have worked fine on a paved or mown runway but not so in our sheep paddock.
Hopefully this simple mod will fix the problem.
May need to fiddle the post heights a bit but will just have to wait till our next Fly Day to find out.
Justin, a few weeks ago several of the skippers had a discussion & decided to get rid of drops, as we did a couple of weeks earlier when we stopped counting DNS/DNF scores within the drops.
It was noted on the writeup of DF65 racing a fortnight ago and feedback was asked for re the new scoring system.
None was forthcoming so I assumed today would be no different. If some skippers don’t like the new scoring system then you need to discuss it with those that do and come to a decision.
It is a democratic society and everyone gets to have their say, but when they say nothing decisions get made by others.
Yes Ron, editing video, especially with multiple tracks does take quite some time, especially if you want to sync it all up correctly. Yours all came out pretty well. The map overlay works well.
Is something short on memory?
One of me earliest hand-held GPS units that I had in the boat at the time used to drop the tracking line just like that once it filled up its RAM.
During Dave’s training sessions yesterday we had a couple of fly away’s, nothing to do with Dave or his flying ability but more to do with some type of radio interference. No loss of RSSI, just momentary loss of control. We have experienced this on this site once or twice before and it generally only happens when flying low.
The first one ended with a perfect landing next to the roadway crossing our recent flying field,
but it was quite a walk
The second later in the day was much closer to home but removed the tail, elevator & rudder (see Kermit’s video for the resultant damage).
Anyway a little bit of glue & some temporary tape (to hold it all square) and the Mighty Bixler II
SportTrainer is ready again to continue in its role as Group Training aircraft.Bring on the next flying day.
After a long & eventful life the mighty Bixler 2 Sport has had yet another makeover.
With all the other planes in my menagerie the poor old Bix 2 has not been getting much airtime of late.
We have a couple of our yachty friends looking to dabble into flying so thought that the Bix may just as well get pressed back into service as the
club, oops – group trainer, afterall most of the current flyers at the field learnt to fly on her & the buddy box originally.I have removed the FY-41AP Lite autopilot/stabiliser as, these days given that she is not flying FPV, its a bit of an overkill. Installed a new ZOHD Kopilot and RadioMaster Rx with flight battery monitoring so that has stabiliser, return to home & Flight battery voltage all covered without the need for any FPV.
The new setup is way lighter so Ill need to check the COG and give her a bit of fine tuning and then she should be good to start her new (old) role.
Set the Taranis up as the Master radio and the Jumper T16 as the Slave radio and bench testing suggests it all works as should be.
So Dave, next time you are venturing down to the field just let me know before hand & I will bring the trainer along for you to try.
Even added some “L” plates for you !!
Finally (apart from a lick of paint & a few lightening holes – if needed) the Fox Dolly Trolley is finished & ready for our next fly day.
With the addition of a front & rear foam block the trolley also doubles as a carrier for transporting the assembled fox (with main wings removed) . Just enough length to fit in the Outback without having to move the front seat from its normal position.
Bring on some flying weather but in the meantime I’ll install the variometer, removed from the old Fox 2.3, & connect the flight battery telemetery.
First trial fit of the glider in the partially completed launch dolly.
Now to fit the spacers to hold the floor in place & cut and fit the axles & all 4 wheels.
