Yes, it was a tad windy with a fair bit of gusting as well. The Zero would probably have flown without using the motor !!
Must agree with Uncle G, a fine video you crafted Mr Kermit from very little. Well done.
Here is my quick walk around after it opened to the public
Yes Ron, that is why we moved your stuff. The Train guys had a spare table AND they needed power so I have some leads & powerboards in the car and you will have power in the morning.
I checked when I got home and had 3 corrupted videos on the laptop. Replaced one and deleted the other 2 and all seems OK now.
Here are a few pics taken during the Sunday setup ready for the Monday Public display
The Display is open to the public (for a gold coin donation) from 10:00am till 3:00pm tomorrow Monday 13th March 2023 @ Kingston Park in the Community Hub
Hoppy, it just so happens that Dave W (Moo) has a Jumper T16 for sale as he is no longer flying. it has the MultiProtocol module built in (same as mine) and supports Spektrum & FRsky and many others.
Some nice looking models in that lot Mr Kermit
Yes Ron, didn’t scrub up too bad.
Glad you got the Spitfire repaired, looks fine again. Ill find a video of it flying & add to the display list for Monday.
After a dastardly landing that removed the nose wheel (and most of the nose) from “Li’l Eagle” she ended up once again looking a bit worse for wear.
Given that I had replaced the plywood servo/battery tray at least 3 times due to breakage I decided this time to 3D print one instead. Probably will break just as easily as the ply one but its a whole lot quicker, cheaper & easier to just print a new one rather than cutting one out of ply.
After a bit of gluing & patching she is good to fly again.
For those that are interested several members of RCToysTas fliers group will be exhibiting at the Model Expo.
As the Marine Modellers group have a rather large amount of superb marine models for display we were asked to leave our boats at home & display the airborne side of the hobby.
Ron (Mr Gadget) will have his latest 3d printed Zero on display along with his 3D printer (hopefully printing lightweight plane parts). He will also have the famous Beer Box Spitfire on display as well as some of his hobby electronics setups.
Mike (Predator) will have several planes on display including the huge 3 metre “foamy” Fox glider (set up for FPV flight with HD colour camera, video transmitter & ZOHD autopilot with RTH) and the tiny 700mm powered glider that flies fantastic.
The FMS 3M Fox is currently the largest commercial foam RC plane available & needs a launch trolley for one person launching due to its power & weight. It runs on 2 x 75C 4500mAh 11.1 Volt LiPo batteries wired in series (22.2 volts) and gets around 30 minutes of powered flight but will stay up there gliding for as long as you want.
Linal (Kermit) will also have a plane or three & perhaps his Quad on display & lastly Dave (Snit) who happens to be one of the foundation members of RCToys, will be displaying several of the superb scale boats built either by himself or his dad. (well someone had to fly the flag for the boaties)
Gerald (Sinker) who is a long standing member of the Marine Modellers group as well as RCToys will also have several of his superb scale models on display.
Thank you for the update on El Presidente, yes he will be sorely missed along with his stories but not so much the endless searches for his lost planes.
Another fine video of the days antics Kermit, well done.
In fact Mr Gadget methinks Mr Frog is running rings around me in the video stakes of late. I will need to take some lessons from him.
Hyperbipe Mods.
The Durafly Hyperbipe is a great little biplane to fly and excellent for practising 3D flying however due to its super lite construction aggressive flying (along with a prang or two) tends to make the plane lose a lot of its original rigidity.
To counteract this I have added a 4mm solid CF rod to the lower wing for stiffness, this has been glued & taped in place between the two aileron servos & close to the COG.
I have also added dyneema braid to tie the top and bottom wings together through the wing supports and epoxy coated the foam supports for extra strength.
The landing gear has been removed as its not needed for either takeoff or landing and a 3d printed block fitted in its place just to give the prop a bit of ground clearance on landing.
The foam battery hatch (lost in flight) has been replaced with a 3d printed version with twist lock to secure rather that the original magnets that failed.
The cheap 9×5 plastic prop has been replaced with a decent Graupner 8×6 which seems to suit the plane far better
Currently painting in all the water transfers that have peeled off in some places and it will be good to fly again.
It may need another CF spar added to the upper wing if I still get wing flutter but hopefully now that the wing supports are much stronger it may not need it.
Oh dear, looks like another repair week coming up.
