I do agree Pete, the sailing is the fun bit, where you finish (to most) is irrelevant.

That said however, as we do score races and there is a system in place it needs to be used correctly or not at all.

Bragging rights for the last race only seems to be the system used by the IOM skippers @ The Duck and at the Canal and that works fine but they do operate with a handicap system that carries over.

Anyway, with the exception perhaps of Kermit, everyone left happy and that’s what its all about.

Final results are up and its going to be controversial I’m sure so till you all have a comment we will say the results are still provisional – pending protest.

The digital servos are more precise than the analog versions but also dearer. Either is fine so long as you waterproof it.

Here is a far more Politically Correct post of the Frogs proclamation above for those easily offended.

But then again isn’t censoring free speech unacceptable as well !!

Gee, looks just like one of the Tas Gov’t FOI documents.!!

I think there may be a bit of usurping amongst the ranks.

Seems that Kermit is ready to knock El Presidente Ian off his throne and Ian appears to be about to reclaim his rightful title of Entertainments Officer back from the pretender Kermit !!

    The plot thickens.

Sounds like a jolly old time was had by all.

It was a bit unfortunate they got the weather forecast so wrong, not a great day for fishing either. Only got 3 size fish but at least they will curry up nicely.

Yes Kermit, Moose is going very well with his flying. Mind you, the Frog was doing a good job with the Tundra & the big glider till the landing (that still needs a bit of work) but overall pretty good for a beginner.

Here is some extended video of the E-flite X-Vert VTOL plane flying in very windy conditions @ The Field yesterday.

This video was pieced together from footage shot by Ross (Bad Angel)

It was impossible to land vertically due to the strong winds so belly landings were the order of the day.

Both vertical take off & hand launch worked fine and the actual normal mode flight was very stable even in the conditions.

The plane has a Spektrum “SAFE” control board fitted with Vertical, Normal & Agility modes. Agility mode is currently disabled in the controller.

I’ll reinstall the FPV camera & VTX before our next Fly In and get some more onboard footage recorded at the Ground Station.

Well if you have some matt black adhesive vinyl I can certainly cut some for you but I’m limited to 300mm length max.

Another fine production there Uncle G

in reply to: Bow bumper #3647

Capt’n the easiest way is to make them from a piece of rubber cut from a thong (flipflop). When I made one for the Ragazza I just bought a $2.00 pair of black thongs from BigW or similar, cut a piece to rough length & shape with a knife then finished it off with a Dremel grinder. I still have 1 & 1/2 thongs left for my next project.

My IOM has a 3D printed bow bumper (using flexible filament) and you can also mould them with silicone rubber, mask up the bow of the boat up to where the bumper will fit, use silicone sealer over the bow to get rough shape & mould with wet soapy fingers to get the shape you want before the silicone starts to cure. Silicone sealer is also good to use if you make a mould first, then fill it, let it cure then remove from mould & glue into place.

Mode switch fixed, Acro now disabled

Oh, it was flying fine Ian, problem was purely operator error.

I selected Agility mode rather than Vertical mode but was too close to the ground when I realised what I did.

I will disable Agility mode till I get used to how it flies & that should resolve the problem.
