Another quality bit of video there BA, well worth the wait.
Like they say Kermit, practice makes perfect.
I’m sure the mighty Tundra will go back together again with a bit of glue & patience.
I got the repairs done to the Prowler today, epoxied the original nose cone/motor mount back together then fitted & epoxied a 1.5mm styrene sheet to the inside & outside of engine mounting area & bolted it all together till the epoxy set. I’ll let it cure fully overnight before cleaning it up and refitting the motor. Hopefully there will now be no vibration.
Thanks for posting Jammy, I will add it to our calendar of events for those that don’t read the forum posts.
Yes Ben, no real time feedback when sailing RC yachts.
Its amazing what you see differently when watching the races on video playback. Kermit did a good job capturing all the action today.
It will be different next week when all the yachts are the same as yours, makes a lot of difference to the tactics.
Pics, videos & Score sheet now posted
Did the tail livery today so the Prowler is finished.
Also added a Sky Climber Custom logo just to show its parentage
So the Nine Eagles Sky Climber (Custom) “Prowler” build (or rebuild actually) is now completed & ready for our next Fly In @ The Field
END..
Its finally starting to look more like a plane now that the wings have been fitted. Also needed to replace the control rods feeding the elevator & rudder as the feed tubes were damaged & blocked with glue. All good now. FPV gear has been tested and its controlling & transmitting as expected, just have the head-tracker on the goggles to test but all else tests OK.
Started on the new livery, the main wings are finished so now only the rudder & tail plane to tart up then a quick tune up of the autopilot & she is good to go.
Oh yes, finally got a name “Prowler” and the callsign VH-FPV
Got a bit more done this afternoon after sailing @ Puddleduck.
All wiring is now completed and the 600mw VTX installed in a 3D printed housing. Hopefully this will prevent the antenna sockets from snapping off in a heavy impact on landing.
New 3D printed VTX mount
Gimbal is now all wired up and working as well
Still need to fit the wings but the COG appears to be close to where it should be with the flight battery & all the gear installed
As flying @ “The Field” was cancelled today I spent some more time on the Sky Climber rebuild.
Motor has been refitted along with the 40A Turnigy Plush ESC. Reset MAX power (something I usually forget) and all tests OK. I remembered to leave the prop off this time after nearly decapitating the dog when testing Kermits Radian glider (the whole nosecone & motor fell off).
Also designed & 3D printed a new Gimbal & GPS antenna mount.
The pitot tube for the AirSpeed sensor has also been fitted
The pan/tilt gimbal has been repaired & fitted to the new mount
Not far to go now
Very nice & smooth flight, conditions looked great on your side of the water.
Blew a gale up home all day & I didn’t get any late update from BA so I missed out.
At least I got a bit more done to the new SkyClimber
The first exhibit for our graveyard. The Phoenix
After its last mishap it is time to say goodbye to the poor old Phoenix, it started its life as Moose’s SkyClimber many years ago when we were still flying @ Calverts Lagoon and she has clocked up many klm’s FPV since then & been resurrected from many seemingly fatal smashes. Unfortunately the foam is now more like rubber then rigid foam and the wings flap like a bird even with the oversize CF reinforcing spar so its time to become a resident in “The Field” graveyard.
Luckily I have another Sky Climber (ex VK7FB – Mike) so its time to get that out of mothballs, carry out some minor repairs and get it fitted out to take over the FPV role of its predecessor.
Only if you are very very good!!
Actually Kermie, with a real video camera there was very little editing required this week , you are becoming quite the consummate videographer.
Yet another fine video there Ross, your Phantom quad vid came out well, especially considering the conditions on the day.
Definitely another fine day of flying at the Field.
